coloring with pastels

Good Morning! I've had a lot of emails asking how I color with pastels so I thought I would try to show you a step by step.

First I must tell you I only like Naturals White Card Stock by SU! for coloring with pastels.

Second I use the cheapest q-tips I can find I show them in the picture above. If you use real q-tips they have to much cotton and will loosen and become a cottonball soon as you start blending. You want to find ones that are wrapped really tight. I bought these at the dollar store.

Now that you have your correct supplies let's get started, I'm using Stampin' Pastels, Naturals White CS, and Jet Black Stazon.

Stamp your leaf in black, using a circular motion add pastels to the leaf as follows

Step 1. I used Mellow Moss

Step 2. I added Glorious Green sorta heavy down the center and on all the heavier inner lines.

Step 3. I added Old Olive to the open areas in a circular motion, leaving small areas without color

Step 4. I added Only Orange not to much and blended, I went back over the center line with Glorious Green, blend some more.

Step 5. I used Bravo on the left side of the leaf and alittle on the upper right, blend, blend, blend. I used the eraser that comes with your pastels to lighten color where I saw fit!

As you play with the pastels you'll see the colors really blend well together and by using different colors like orange really pops your leaf.
I do the same process when coloring my butterflies. I hope this was helpful. I would love to see what you make, send me a link to your card so I can take a peek:)

For my man!

Good Morning!

Today's challenge LSC113 on SCS is to make a card for a guy without using masculin stamps. This was the first thing I thought of. The card is 5.5 square. I used my cricut doodletype cartridge for the words. The butterfly is from the retired Wonderful Wings set. I used chalk and q-tips to color the butterfly. I used a cloud stencil with chalk for the sky. The butterfly is cut out and the wings are curled.

I smeared Distress ink all over the Cool Carribean and Vanilla Card stock to tone down the color. I also ran my Choc Chip marker over my ribbon to tone it down.

Reverse Masking

Well on splitcoaststampers.com yesterday the TLC111 was reverse masking here is the card I made for that challenge.

Supplies used:
All supplies SU! unless otherwise stated

Stamp Sets
Simply Said
Fine Lace
All In A Row
Snow Flurries

Paper
Artichoke
Lavender Lace
Basic Black
WW

Ink
Artichoke
Lavender Lace
Eggplant
Black (Stazon)
White Craft

Accessories
Cricut ( to make the 2 hearts)
Mat Pack and Piercer
Ribbon
Sponges
Stipple brush

How I made this card
I first cut out two hearts ( Doodle Type Cartiage ) with my Cricut I cut one at 2 inches and the second at 1.5 inches. I then removed both inner hearts and placed aside. I placed the cutout cardstock with the centers removed onto my 3 inch square WW cardstock I took my sponge and sponged on the lavender lace ink as soild as possible, next I placed the smaller heart the one you set aside, inside the larger heart and sponged eggplant ink, let dry, with the smaller heart still in place I used one of the flurries stamp and stamped on top of the eggplant with craft white. Let dry. Remove the smaller heart and you should have the larger heart dark and the smaller heart inside lighter. I than stamped the Simply Said Heart words in black and then the flower heart inside. Make sure everything is dry and now cover the large heart with the one you place aside, sponge artichoke and craft white to fill in around the heart covering all of your WW 3 inch piece. Next finish your card
I hope this was helpful! Enjoy your day and thanks for stopping by

Wow talk about a ugly card making day. I have wasted so much paper, ink and time!!! I'm sure it's because I've been awake since 3am Yikes!! I was at target the other day and saw a card that looked alot like this card except it had no piercing no background stamps and the layers were faux! Can you image this card? Well the kicker was they wanted 4.99 for it I almost passed out! Oh I forgot to tell you it didn't have any ribbon either. So with all the additions I was thinking I could get at least 10 bucks. what do you think? LOL
